Kemaman: A couple were injured after their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) collided with a herd of wild elephants at Kilometre 274.6 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), after the Cheneh Toll Plaza, near here last night. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli reported that the incident occurred at 10.20 pm, resulting in minor injuries to Abdul Wahid Ismail, 55, and his wife, Fauziah Muda, 52. Abdul Wahid sustained injuries to his left hand, while Fauziah injured her right hand.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the couple were on their way home to Kampung Pasir Gajah from Kuantan, Pahang, when the accident took place. Initial investigations revealed that Abdul Wahid was driving a Toyota Estima MPV in the left lane when he encountered the herd of elephants on the road. The close proximity made it impossible to avoid a collision with the animals.

Meanwhile, Cheneh Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Zubaderi Zahari stated that eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene. They assisted in extracting Fauziah from the vehicle and provided initial medical treatment to both individuals. Subsequently, the couple were transferred to the care of medical personnel and taken to Kemaman Hospital for further treatment.
