Corporate Reporting Seen as Strategic Tool Amid Global Economic Transition

Kuala lumpur: Companies should view corporate reporting as a strategic tool rather than a compliance burden amid the global economy’s transition towards green and digital paradigms. Finance Minister II and acting Economy Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan emphasized this perspective during his keynote speech at the National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA) 2025.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamzah highlighted that corporate reporting serves as a vital means of communicating purpose, progress, and performance with clarity and integrity. He commended Bursa Malaysia Bhd, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) for their collaborative efforts in enhancing corporate reporting standards. The government, he noted, recognizes the importance of strong institutions and professional integrity in achieving national corporate objectives.

He further elaborated that the government depends on organizations like Bursa Malaysia, the MIA, and MICPA to maintain high standards of professionalism, foster ethical corporate cultures, and ensure Malaysia’s reputation as a trusted hub for investment and business. Amir Hamzah noted the significant challenges facing the corporate community, such as digital disruption, sustainability demands, and evolving investor expectations. He stressed that these challenges also present opportunities for innovation, leadership, trust-building, and promoting openness and accountability.

Amir Hamzah urged the corporate sector to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and improve transparency and public trust. He called for a collective effort towards creating a corporate Malaysia that is innovative, responsible, and transparent in its communications.

For over three decades, NACRA has been a hallmark of excellence in corporate reporting, setting benchmarks for transparency, accountability, and good governance in Malaysia’s corporate landscape. This year’s NACRA holds special significance as it marks the 35th anniversary of the awards and has seen participation from 60 organizations, reflecting a growing acknowledgment within the corporate community of the importance of clear, honest, and comprehensive reporting.
