Sarikei: A contractor lost about RM460,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme. Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis stated that the contractor, in his 50s, lodged a police report yesterday after realizing that he had been deceived. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aswandy mentioned that the victim encountered an investment-linked advertisement on Facebook that promised lucrative returns within a short period. After clicking on a link, he was directed to the WhatsApp application and added to a group, where he was provided with an explanation about the investment. The victim then contacted an individual who acted as a mentor.
The victim was promised a 25 percent return within 24 hours and subsequently made seven cash transactions totaling about RM460,000 into two different bank accounts between December 5, 2025, and January 5, 2026, but never received the promised returns. Instead, he was told to make additional payments if he wished to withdraw the promised returns, Aswandy reported.
