Contractor Falls Prey to RM98,800 Fake Tender Scam

Kemaman: A contractor lost RM98,800 after falling victim to an online tender scam orchestrated by an individual posing as a teacher at a school in Chukai near here on Sunday. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli reported the incident involving a 45-year-old man who was contacted by someone identifying himself as "Cikgu Adam." The impostor claimed to be a teacher at a local school and expressed interest in purchasing 95 stainless steel canteen chairs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim received a quotation worth RM351,500 for the supply of these chairs from a supplier introduced by "Cikgu Adam." On July 5, the contractor transferred a deposit of RM98,800 into a bank account provided by the suspect. However, upon verifying with the school, the victim discovered that no teacher by the name of 'Cikgu Adam' existed.

Supt Mohd Razi Rosli stated that the case is currently under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. The authorities are working to track down the suspect and recover the lost funds.
