Kota kinabalu: Facilities in two popular island resorts in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, close to Kota Kinabalu, suffered damage due to continuous rain during the Southwest Monsoon season. In a statement today, Sabah Parks said four Keruing housing units at the Basecamp Substation on Gaya Island were damaged and the staff were evacuated. Several of the island’s facilities like seating and rest areas have collapsed due to coastal erosion.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, staff, along with the concessionaire and operator, worked together to move unaffected facilities. At the same time, cleaning works for public toilets were being carried out on Manukan Island to remove mud and sand that had soiled the toilet floors due to the overflow of floodwaters. The statement highlighted that some coastal areas were severely eroded due to rainwater flowing rapidly from the hills and meeting the high tide at the time of the incident, which occurred around 9 pm to 1 am.
