Construction Of Mosque In Jalan Masjid India To Go On – PM Anwar

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today confirmed that the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a mosque in Jalan Masjid India will proceed as planned. Speaking at the 218th Police Day Celebration at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL), he emphasized that the ceremony would take place on March 27 despite differing opinions from several parties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted the need for a new mosque in the area due to overcrowding issues at nearby prayer spaces. He called upon the temple committee to engage in prudent negotiations concerning the temple’s relocation. Anwar assured that Malaysia adheres to its laws while maintaining racial harmony through amicable discussions.

The Prime Minister clarified that there would be no demolition of the temple, even though it was built in an unsuitable location. He cited examples of mosques in Lahad Datu, Sabah, and Sentul, Kuala Lumpur that were previously demolished for not complying with regulations, stressing the importance of resolving such matters patiently and properly.

Anwar addressed concerns from extremist groups, stating that he was criticized for allegedly being subservient to various religious groups. He reiterated that the government does not exploit Islam as the Federation’s religion to exert pressure on any party, advocating for adherence to laws and MADANI values.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. Discussions regarding the relocation of the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple, situated on land owned by the Jakel Group, were reported to be proceeding harmoniously, facilitated by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
