Construction of ECRL in Terengganu Reaches 90% Completion: Ahmad Samsuri

Terengganu: Terengganu is currently leading in the construction progress of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) among the involved states, achieving 90 percent completion. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar confirmed that the project is on schedule, with the Dungun station reaching 58 percent completion.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Samsuri highlighted that the Dungun station is set to become a Transit Oriented Development (TOD), despite infrastructure challenges that need to be addressed. The development aims to drive economic growth and industrial expansion in Terengganu. He emphasized the importance of having necessary infrastructure in place to attract investors for further development.

Ahmad Samsuri noted that Terengganu plans to implement TOD, focusing on urban planning that integrates mixed-use development and efficient transportation around the six ECRL stations. The Terengganu State Secretary and State Finance Officer have been tasked with coordinating a strategy to expedite infrastructure readiness to draw in investors.

He addressed additional challenges posed by the new development areas, such as the need for land reclamation to prevent flooding, and the necessity of collaboration with relevant departments to ensure infrastructure stability.

Separately, Ahmad Samsuri mentioned the upcoming continuation of constructing 16 breakwaters in Batu Rakit, Kuala Nerus, to tackle coastal erosion. The project was delayed due to large waves hindering the barge vessel’s access. He assured that discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister are underway to expedite the process, with a visit from the official expected soon to evaluate necessary actions.
