Comprehensive Review of 12MP Initiatives Urged by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for a thorough review of the initiatives under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) to identify service shortcomings and improve rural community services as the country prepares for the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Rural and Regional Development Minister emphasized the importance of this review in ensuring that future planning under the 13MP is more ambitious and effective. Speaking during a New Year address at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the necessity for transparency and the willingness to recognize and correct any existing flaws. He underscored that key performance indicators (KPIs) should be grounded in public satisfaction, as serving the needs of the people is paramount.

Ahmad Zahid also announced plans to reassess the Rural Development Policy Action Plan 2030 (DPLB 2030) and the Ministry’s Strategic Plan 2025, ensuring their alignment with the upcoming 13MP’s objectives. Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) has been assigned to conduct a detailed study focused on public satisfaction concerning the provision of basic needs and facilities, as well as initiatives to boost the socio-economic development of rural areas. The outcomes of this study are expected to inform and refine future strategies.

The Deputy Prime Minister also urged the staff of the Ministry and its agencies to embrace strategic thinking and a cross-functional approach to improve efficiency and optimize resource use. This strategy will be implemented via three clusters: the Human Capital Cluster, the Economic Cluster, and the Entrepreneurial Cluster, aiming to leverage the diverse skills and experiences within organizations to achieve common objectives.
