Community Nurses’ Staffing and Grade Promotions Set for Senate Discussion

Kuala Lumpur:Issues concerning staffing and grade promotions for community nurses will be addressed in the Dewan Negara sitting scheduled to begin on November 30. These issues include the appointments of over 1,000 individuals who have yet to receive their positions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Senator Dr. RA Lingeshwaran highlighted the importance of these matters to ensure the welfare and career progression of community nurses are strengthened, given their contributions to the country's healthcare system. He emphasized the need for community nurses with the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualification and a professional certificate to be considered for promotion from Grade U1 to U3. Additionally, he stated that community nurses who have completed the Advanced Bachelor's Integrated Programme (PBSL) should have the opportunity for promotion before the next general election.

Dr. Lingeshwaran also plans to propose that nurses be allowed to wear sports shoes while on duty and consider the use of scrubs as an alternative to the current white uniforms. During a related event, CUEPACS president Datuk Dr. Adnan Mat suggested that the government standardize community nurses' grades from Grade 1 to Grade U5 under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA). He mentioned the possibility of extending the training period for community nurses by six months to align their qualifications with Grade U5 requirements.

Dr. Adnan acknowledged the dedication of community nurses who, despite holding Grade U1 positions, consistently provide excellent services under challenging conditions. He also paid tribute to healthcare personnel who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Sarawak, emphasizing the need for their contributions to be recognized.
