Kuala lumpur: A total of 1,273 cases have been successfully resolved through community mediation from 2017 to 2025, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. He stated that the initiative is now supported by 595 certified community mediators who facilitate peaceful, quick, and prudent dispute resolutions without resorting to court proceedings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, during the launch of the national-level DARES@Komuniti 2026 programme, the minister highlighted that there are currently 10 Community Mediation Centres operating nationwide, offering their services free of charge. He also mentioned that 12 new organisations have been identified to expand the programme's reach through collaboration with local authorities.

Aaron emphasized the importance of dialogue and community mediation to tackle conflicts, the spread of hatred, and social deficits that could affect the harmony of Malaysia's diverse society. He noted that the country's variety of religions, ethnicities, cultures, and languages is its greatest asset, which can only become a source of strength if understanding and mutual respect are prioritized.

The minister warned that unity today faces challenges not only within physical communities but also in digital spaces such as smartphones and social media, which can unfortunately serve as platforms for spreading slander, hatred, religious provocation, and racial incitement. He pointed out that fake news can reach millions within minutes, whereas efforts to correct perceptions may take much longer.

Consequently, Aaron stressed the need for more digital unity agents who prioritize facts over falsehoods, empathy over emotion, and dialogue over provocation. He urged the youth to become responsible digital space users and to understand the impact of their online actions on societal harmony.
