Comms Ministry Advances Digital Infrastructure, Strategic Communications

Kuala lumpur: The Communications Ministry continued to register significant achievements throughout 2025 in advancing the Malaysia MADANI agenda through the enhancement of digital infrastructure, the government's strategic communications, online safety, and the development of the national communications industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah stated that key achievements included expanding mobile broadband coverage towards 100 per cent of populated areas under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), strengthening the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) network as digital community hubs, as well as implementing social media platform regulation and the Safe Internet campaign.

"In addition, the ministry has strengthened the development of the creative industry through funding and incentives for local producers by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), while enhancing RTM's public broadcasting services across terrestrial television, over-the-top (OTT) platforms and radio.

"We have also played an important role in the national digital agenda during Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, while maintaining high standards in governance, financial management, human capital development, innovation and service delivery," he said when speaking at the Communications Ministry's 2025 Excellent Service Award (APC) ceremony for the Sarawak Zone here today. Also present was Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

He noted that the public service landscape had become increasingly challenging due to rapid technological changes, advances in artificial intelligence (AI), the explosion of digital information, and rising public expectations for greater efficiency, transparency, and reliability in service delivery.

"As ministry personnel, we bear a great responsibility to ensure the public receives accurate information, efficient services, and inclusive access to communications. Our role is not only to disseminate information, but also to build public confidence in government policies and the nation's development agenda," he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim highlighted that Sarawak holds a highly strategic position in the country's development and has emerged as one of the leaders in digital transformation and the new economy. Rich in cultural diversity and natural resources, he said the state also plays an important role in supporting the national digital development agenda.

"All Communications Ministry personnel in Sarawak are expected to continue serving as strategic partners to the Federal Government and the Sarawak state government in expanding communications access, strengthening digital literacy, combating the spread of false information, and ensuring the benefits of the digital economy are enjoyed by all communities, including those in rural and remote areas," he said. At the same time, he expressed appreciation to the ministry's personnel in the state for their commitment and dedication in carrying out their duties despite geographical, logistical, and operational challenges.

Earlier, 84 Communications Ministry personnel serving in various agencies in Sarawak received the Excellent Service Award in recognition of their outstanding performance throughout last year. Among the recipients was Bernama Sarawak Bureau news officer Rozlin Rusharmeen Rosmin.
