Kota kinabalu: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) should not be made an important agenda only during election season as the commitment to Sabah and Sarawak knows no season. PKR Wanita chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, who emphasised the matter, said that MA63 is not a new issue but has long been part of the party's struggle and constitution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina, who is also Education Minister, stated that respecting MA63 means acknowledging the voice and aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak. She highlighted this in a Facebook post, asserting that the agreement has been a continuous element of their political agenda.

Fadhlina elaborated that in the context of education, numerous issues raised by Sabah and Sarawak have been collaboratively addressed. This includes challenges like teacher recruitment, dilapidated schools, and educational development, along with the allocation and increased involvement of the state governments in planning their educational requirements.

She further stressed the importance of consistent commitment, ensuring that Sabah and Sarawak always have a seat at the table. Their voices should be heard, and they should participate in deciding what is best for their regions. Fadhlina expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his ongoing prioritization of Sabah and Sarawak.

Earlier, Fadhlina attended the 2026 Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council Meeting (MTPMA63) chaired by Anwar at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu. Anwar reiterated that MA63 should not be viewed merely as historical documentation but as a national obligation requiring sincerity, fairness, and responsibility.

The Prime Minister assured that the federal government remains committed to facilitating extensive discussions with the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak, driven by unity, to ensure equitable national prosperity.
