CNY Special Operation Highlights Road Ban Violations by Goods Vehicles

Kuala Lumpur: Road ban violations by goods-carrying vehicles and drug abuse emerged as prominent offences identified by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) during the Chinese New Year special operation from January 20 to February 9.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Negeri Sembilan, state JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf reported that the department conducted checks on 12,138 vehicles and took action against 2,508 vehicles for various offences. Thirteen goods-carrying vehicles were detained for road ban violations, resulting in 57 summonses being issued. Additionally, action was taken against two bus drivers who failed urine tests for methamphetamine.

In the same operation, the Negeri Sembilan state JPJ inspected 4,205 motorcycles, took action against 725, issued summonses for 1,863, and seized 20 motorcycles. In Perlis, the state JPJ took action against 1,609 vehicles and issued 2,757 notices after inspecting 14,555 vehicles. Perlis JPJ director Noraini Mohd Nawi noted that 319 notices were issued to 2,468 goods-carrying vehicles during the road ban periods. Further inspections of 357 express buses revealed two violations due to worn tyres and cracked windows, and one bus driver tested positive for drugs.

In Penang, JPJ state director Zulkifly Ismail reported the inspection of 31,122 vehicles, with action imposed on 4,105 for various offences. The operation led to the seizure of 48 vehicles, including 25 motorcycles, 18 goods-carrying vehicles, four vans, and one public transport vehicle. The JPJ also addressed 62 cases involving tour and express buses lacking a second driver for extended journeys.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli shared that a total of 107,014 notices were issued for various offences after inspecting 429,423 vehicles, with 724 vehicles seized during the operation. The special operation aimed to enhance road safety and compliance during the festive period.
