Perlis: Cloud Seeding Operations (OPA) Series 5 and 6 will be conducted in Perlis and Kedah from May 10 to 12 and May 17 to 19 respectively, said Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. He stated that these operations aim to proactively increase rainfall distribution in the main dam catchment areas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the focus of these operations will be on the Timah Tasoh Dam catchment areas in Perlis, along with the Pedu, Ahning, Muda, and Beris dams in Kedah. The intention is to raise water levels at these dams, which are currently at alert level. Arthur noted that the OPA would be implemented based on meteorological analyses conducted by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), considering factors such as air humidity, atmospheric stability, and wind movement patterns to enhance the operation's effectiveness.

The selection of these areas is due to the presence of rain clouds with potential for cloud seeding. Arthur further mentioned that the implementation of the OPA involves strategic collaboration between MetMalaysia, the National Disaster Management Agency, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
