Claims Of Redelineation To Reduce Power Of Malays And Islam Unhealthy

Kuala lumpur: The claim that Pakatan Harapan (PH)'s victory in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election will lead to the redelineation of the State Legislative Assembly constituencies, thus reducing Malay and Muslim power, is an unhealthy campaign that is trying to scare the people.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that while the redelineation process can be conducted after a period of eight years as provided, the stance of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet is to ensure that the gap in the number of voters between constituencies remains minimal. Fahmi emphasized that there would be no compromise on actions perceived to reduce Malay or Muslim power, describing such claims as fear-mongering.

Fahmi addressed these concerns during a visit to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Negeri Sembilan Bureau Office. He was responding to remarks by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who suggested that PH's victory could alter the political landscape of Negeri Sembilan by increasing the number of state assembly seats. Takiyuddin claimed that constituencies with a large number of voters, currently represented by PH, might be divided into new constituencies.

Fahmi, also serving as PKR Information chief, argued that the administration of Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun should be the basis for voters' decisions in the upcoming state election. He criticized the opposition's allegations as baseless and intended to intimidate, highlighting the state government's performance in developing Islamic values and supporting the Muslim community.

He further noted the achievements under Aminuddin's administration, including the construction of new mosques, increased zakat collections, and higher allowances for imams, as evidence of the state's commitment to Islamic development and welfare.
