Perak: Rising national triathlete Cindy Sui produced an encouraging performance ahead of her SEA Games debut in Thailand next week, claiming the women’s sprint title at the Aquathlon Kuala Langat 2025 at Lover’s Bridge, Tanjung Sepat, today. The statement said Cindy, 27, clocked 34 minutes and 33 seconds (34:33s) to finish the contest which combined a 750m swim and 5km run, ahead of Chan May Yan (37:37s) and Shannon Liaw (40:49s).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Cindy expressed that the race provided a valuable experience in preparing for her SEA Games performance, with aquathlon being the first event she will compete in. Despite not considering it an ‘A race’, Cindy found it crucial to evaluate her readiness and identify areas for improvement.
The former Sarawak state swimmer shared how switching sports marked a crucial shift in her athletic journey. Once a competitive swimmer, her highest achievement in Malaysia was at SUKMA, unable to break into the national team. Transitioning to triathlon allowed her to pursue representing her country on an international level, a dream she thought was unattainable.
Meanwhile, Khairil Azhar Abdul Wahid, an armed forces corporal, delivered a notable result in the men’s Olympic distance, securing victory with a time of 1:05:23s. This achievement marked his 10th podium finish of the year, having finished second in the previous year’s event.
This year’s Aquathlon Kuala Langat, held at the scenic Lover’s Bridge, Tanjung Sepat, marked its third edition. The event attracted approximately 550 participants from 18 countries, showcasing athletes from Uruguay, Greece, and Canada across various age-group and open categories.
