Chow Urges Tighter Monitoring Of Penang Development Projects

Penang: All members of the State Executive Council, along with state government departments and agencies, including local authorities (PBT), have been instructed to enhance monitoring of development projects across Penang to ensure they remain on track. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the matter must be given due attention to ensure that each planned project is completed within the stipulated timeframe for the benefit of the people.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow has taken steps to instruct the state government, exco members, and agencies, including local councils, to improve oversight of project implementation. This involves expediting the commencement of projects that have yet to start and ensuring that ongoing projects are closely monitored to adhere to schedules. The announcement was made during a press conference after a walkabout at Pasar Pagi Balik Pulau, attended by Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim.

Chow highlighted the importance of addressing various factors that could hinder project progress and lead to delays. He emphasized that timely completion of development projects would address public concerns and enhance Penang's competitiveness and resilience in facing challenges such as climate change.

He expressed hope that each exco member would take a proactive role in leading their respective departments to ensure that state development projects proceed as planned. Chow stressed the importance of maintaining the state government's performance by focusing on monitoring and timely implementation.

Chow also pointed out that project delays often stem from technical issues, including weaknesses in the initial study stage, which can result in unforeseen problems during implementation. However, he reassured that these issues are not a serious concern and emphasized the importance of visible progress for the people of Penang.
