Chong Wei To Lead BAM Performance Committee, Vows Close Cooperation With Coaches

Kuala lumpur: National badminton legend Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei has been appointed as the chairman of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) Performance Committee, marking a significant move to strengthen the national body’s efforts in revitalising the sport’s excellence.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz stated that Chong Wei’s appointment, along with three other new council members, was made based on their expertise and vast experience in their respective fields. The new council members include Tan Sri Gooi Hoe Soon, Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, and Datuk Sunil Abraham, all recognized for their expertise.

Tengku Zafrul explained that BAM has restructured its existing committees, reducing them from 14 to 10 in accordance with the Tangkis 2030 strategic plan. Nine chairmen have been appointed for these committees, all of whom are council members. The restructuring aims to streamline operations and enhance the effectiveness of the committees.

The BAM Council has formally adopted the Tangkis 2030 as the official plan moving forward. This plan, initially presented in August, is designed not only for BAM but for the entire badminton community in Malaysia. Tengku Zafrul highlighted the importance of BAM’s financial stability in implementing the plan successfully, noting the focus on expanding investment and commercial efforts.

Chong Wei, in his new role, emphasized the importance of collaborating closely with coaches to improve the athletes’ performance. He expressed the need to understand the challenges athletes face during competitions and committed to working diligently with coaches to enhance athletes’ performance.
