Guiyang: Guizhou's digital industry cluster has now reached an impressive scale of 300 billion yuan (approximately RM180 billion), with the southwestern Chinese province's computing capacity surpassing 176 EFLOPS (exa floating-point operations per second).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, 176 EFLOPS is equivalent to a theoretical computing capacity of about 176 quintillion calculations per second. In a statement, Guizhou Vice Governor Luo Qiang emphasized that the province has established a strong foundation in artificial intelligence (AI) and the big data industry, focusing on applying large models across specific industries. He highlighted that Guizhou will further its 'AI Plus' initiative, accelerate the development of the token economy, and explore new forms of the intelligent economy.
Meanwhile, Liu Liehong, head of China's National Data Administration, stated that data is increasingly becoming a foundational resource and a driver of innovation. He announced that the administration will actively promote the development and utilization of data resources and encourage the integration of data from public-sector, corporate, and other sources. The goal is to enable more industries to establish a comprehensive value cycle, covering data rights confirmation, pricing, revenue distribution, circulation and utilization, along with data security governance.
Both officials delivered their remarks at the Big Data Expo 2026 DATA Night held in Guiyang, Guizhou, on August 28, which attracted over 500 representatives from government, industry, academia, research, and application sectors, both from China and internationally. Hosted by People's Daily Online and Guizhou Big Data Group, the event, themed 'Data Powers Embodied Intelligence, Intelligence Empowers the Real Economy', concentrated on institutional frameworks for data elements, technological advancements in embodied intelligence, and practical industrial applications.
Organized by the China International Big Data Industry Expo's committee, the event served as a platform for dialogue, exchange, and collaboration in advancing AI and embodied intelligence. Bernama was among the media outlets that participated in a program hosted by the Chinese news portal People's Daily Online, in conjunction with the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026. This program allowed journalists to visit Gui'an and other locations in Guizhou to witness the province's burgeoning digital and artificial intelligence industries.
