China and Malaysia Unite Against Unilateralism and Protectionism

Putrajaya: China and Malaysia have pledged to collaborate with regional countries to counter geopolitical rivalry and bloc confrontation, aiming to combat unilateralism and protectionism, as stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The declaration was made during an official dinner hosted in his honor by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Seri Perdana Complex.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, President Xi and Prime Minister Anwar engaged in discussions that led to significant consensus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Xi emphasized the need for unity among Asian countries to resist geopolitical challenges and safeguard the region’s prosperity.

President Xi’s visit to Malaysia marks his second official trip in 12 years, the previous one being in 2013. In 2023, both leaders announced the establishment of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, signaling a new era in their bilateral relations. Xi expressed China’s commitment to working with Malaysia to create a strategic partnership that would serve as a model for Global South cooperation and contribute to regional and global peace and stability.

The Chinese president highlighted the enduring friendship between China and Malaysia, founded on mutual respect and trust, and beneficial economic cooperation. He wished for Malaysia’s continued prosperity and emphasized the lasting friendship between the two nations.

The event was attended by key Malaysian officials, including Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, along with several cabinet ministers and the CEO of the Malaysian National News Agency, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
