Selangor: Initial police investigations into the tragic death of a child and the hospitalisation of two others, believed to have been exposed to methadone, indicate that the incident was not intentional. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar stated that the focus of the investigation is now on potential negligence.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shazeli explained during a press conference at the Kajang Stadium MRT station that there was no evidence of deliberate or intentional actions involved, suggesting the situation stemmed from negligence. The methadone in question was legally prescribed for the children's father, and it is suspected that an oversight led to the children accessing the medication.
The two surviving children are reportedly showing signs of recovery, though they continue to be closely monitored in the hospital. Shazeli noted that their parents have been released on police bail to manage family matters following the death of their 11-year-old child.
Media reports had previously highlighted the incident, which occurred last Wednesday, when the children were found unconscious at their home in Sungai Ramal, Kajang, and subsequently rushed to Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin. The parents were detained to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Additionally, Shazeli announced the deployment of 3,100 personnel for a crime prevention operation during the Chinese New Year festive season. He urged the public to report crimes and share travel plans through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or local police channels to enhance community safety.
