Chief Secretary and Public Service DG to Present WFH Proposals to MTEN

Kuala lumpur: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz will present detailed proposals on working from home (WFH) at the upcoming National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, said MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in the Cabinet meeting held today, emphasized the need for several issues to be closely monitored and presented for decision at the MTEN meeting scheduled after Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The Cabinet received an initial report from the Chief Secretary, prepared alongside the Public Service director-general, regarding WFH for the public sector. This initiative will prioritize non-critical sectors, with the Prime Minister requesting a more comprehensive proposal at the next MTEN meeting.

The proposed WFH implementation will exclude critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and frontline services. Fahmi addressed the involvement of the private sector, clarifying that current discussions are centered on civil servants due to the substantial number of personnel and the necessity for policy coordination at the government level. However, the government does not restrict the private sector from adopting WFH if deemed necessary at this time.

Fahmi highlighted the Prime Minister's directive for ministers to proactively engage with agencies under their respective ministries and industry stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the current challenges in each sector. He cited the example of Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who conducted discussions with aviation industry players in response to developments in West Asia affecting the industry. The findings from these engagements will be compiled to guide future efforts, initiatives, and government assistance for specific sectors if required.
