Call For Probe Into Foreign Fund Flows Not A Threat To Democracy -AMK

Kuala lumpur: Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has stressed that its call to investigate foreign fund flows to private companies allegedly misused for political propaganda and unlawful activities is not a threat to the democratic system or the principles of freedom. AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said that as a responsible civil society, such a call was justified rather than allowing the allegations to spread without any investigation or action.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim addressed the statement made by four former leaders of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0). These leaders likened the call for investigation to previous regimes and claimed it contradicted the values long championed by Bersih 2.0. Muhammad Kamil countered by questioning whether the former leaders examined the statement rationally and fairly or if they were influenced by external parties aiming to divert attention from the allegations.

Four former Bersih 2.0 leaders had earlier criticized the PKR Youth wing's initiative to probe allegations of foreign fund channelling linked to attempts to shape domestic political narratives. They described this initiative as contrary to the founding principles of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), which aims to uphold justice. However, Muhammad Kamil clarified that his call did not suggest arbitrary raids on any NGO receiving foreign funds.

Muhammad Kamil emphasized that PKR has always been a political platform supported by mass movements and civil society organisations committed to the reform agenda. He acknowledged the contributions of these organisations in promoting awareness and nurturing democratic understanding while supporting the reform agenda.

The issue, as raised by AMK, involves allegations that touch upon national sovereignty and security. Muhammad Kamil asserted that democracy and freedom do not grant any party the right to act in ways that could threaten the country's security and peace.
