Kuala lumpur: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced today that the Cabinet has approved in principle the proposed development of the Bandar Malaysia-Seri Kembangan Elevated Expressway (BSE). The decision aligns with the MADANI Government's commitment to delivering infrastructure that drives economic growth, enhances competitiveness, and benefits the public sustainably.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the BSE is a strategic infrastructure project designed to enhance transport connectivity in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area. It is envisioned as a high-capacity link integrating several major highway networks, including the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Maju Highway (MEX), Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Shah Alam Highway (KESAS), and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal System (SPRINT) highway network.
Nanta emphasized that the elevated highway could serve as an alternative route for motorists, facilitating movement between the northern, southern, and east coast corridors of Peninsular Malaysia. Improved connectivity is expected to boost public mobility, enhance logistics efficiency, and facilitate the movement of goods.
From a public well-being perspective, Nanta noted that the BSE could reduce travel times and improve access to employment centers, educational institutions, and public services. He stated that the project aligns with Malaysia MADANI's aspirations, representing a long-term investment in strengthening connectivity, inclusive development, and the competitiveness of the economy.
Following the in-principle approval, the Ministry of Works (KKR) and relevant agencies, including the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), will conduct negotiations and detailed assessments to finalize the project's implementation structure. The government is committed to evaluating every aspect of the project, particularly public interest, value for money, and fiscal sustainability, before making final decisions on its implementation.
Nanta clarified that the BSE development would follow a private-sector financing approach, ensuring no direct financial commitment from the Federal Government. The government will also consider other infrastructure solutions to complete road networks and address traffic congestion in the Klang Valley, assessing proposals based on strategic needs, capacity enhancement, and traffic flow impact.
He assured that the KKR would ensure a thorough, transparent process in the project's subsequent stages, aligning with the government's commitment to developing an efficient, integrated, and sustainable transport system to support economic growth and improve citizens' quality of life.
