Kuala lumpur: A Cabinet Committee will be set up to bolster the utilization and procurement of locally manufactured products while improving coordination among ministries and government agencies, according to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the committee's establishment, approved by the Cabinet, aims to streamline direction, policies, and strategies to promote and sell local products in both domestic and export markets, thereby reducing the nation's dependence on imports. The committee will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) acting as the secretariat.
Armizan expressed that KPDN welcomed the Cabinet's decision on July 15 to form the committee and that the ministry would promptly refine its terms of reference and schedule its meetings. The agencies to be represented on the committee will include the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, and other relevant ministries. The Ministry of Economy will also be involved as the central agency in determining the country's economic direction and policies.
KPDN is optimistic that the creation of the Cabinet Committee will reinforce the Jom Malaysia initiative, which is built on four transformation pillars: national movement, whole-of-nation approach, product inclusivity, and market expansion.
Regarding the Jom Malaysia Festival, Armizan noted that the three-day event, ending tomorrow, is a strategic collaboration between federal and state governments to advance the agenda of increasing the promotion, use, and purchase of local products. The festival unites over 100 local entrepreneurs, industry players, and strategic partners on a single Jom Malaysia platform, showcasing sales activities, business networking opportunities, and informative government exhibitions.
