Bursa Malaysia to Host WFE General Assembly and Annual Meeting in November 2024.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd will host the 63rd World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) General Assembly and Annual Meeting from November 19-21, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The WFE is the global industry association for exchanges and clearing houses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the WFE’s flagship conference will gather industry leaders from global exchanges, regulatory authorities, and key institutions for high-level discussions on major industry issues. This year, over 300 delegates and representatives from 50 organizations worldwide will participate in the event, with most attending in person and some joining virtually, as stated by the stock exchange regulator.

Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Chief Executive Muhamad Umar Swift expressed Bursa Malaysia’s anticipation of contributing to the WFE’s initiatives to guide the development of global capital markets and promote diversity and inclusion. They also highlighted Malaysia’s role in sharing the latest developments and the ASEAN region’s
collaboration on sustainability leadership initiatives to meet the evolving needs of market participants.

The annual conference rotates between regions, with Malta and Bermuda hosting in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Malaysia last hosted the WFE General Assembly and Annual Meeting 26 years ago in 1998. The exchange noted that hosting the WFE this year is timely as Malaysia prepares to chair ASEAN in 2025, aiming to play a larger role in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable regional economy.
