Bursa Malaysia Index Climbs Amid Positive Market Sentiment

Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia extended its upward momentum at midday today, bolstered by continued buying activities in selected heavyweights, particularly in the financial sector. This positive trend further supported market sentiment, alongside the firmer performance of regional peers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 11.90 points, or 0.72 percent, to 1,658.80 from Thursday's close of 1,646.90. The index had opened 1.15 points higher at 1,648.05 and fluctuated between 1,647.60 and 1,659.53 during the session. Market breadth was positive, with gainers outnumbering decliners 539 to 386, while 512 counters remained unchanged, 1,341 were untraded, and 16 suspended. Turnover reached 1.64 billion units valued at RM1.03 billion.

Regionally, indices also showed gains. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 0.65 percent to 25,663.41, Japan's Nikkei 225 Index increased 1.14 percent to 49,559.22, South Korea's Kospi Index edged up 1.04 percent to 4,035.91, and Singapore's Straits Times Index rose 0.13 percent to 4,576.63. Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd noted that positive spillover effects and ongoing window-dressing activities are expected to maintain the benchmark index's momentum.

Malaysia's trade performance also improved in November 2025, with total trade rising 11.1 percent year-on-year to RM263.8 billion from RM237 billion in November 2024. Among the heavyweights, Maybank gained 12 sen to RM10.42, Public Bank rose five sen to RM4.46, and CIMB increased 17 sen to RM8.05. Other heavyweights such as Tenaga Nasional and IHH Healthcare also saw gains.

In terms of the most active stocks, Borneo Oil inched up half-a-sen to one sen, while Tanco and Magma remained flat. V.S Industry and Zetrix AI saw slight declines. Top gainers included Nestle, Fraser and Neave, and Malaysian Pacific Industries. Meanwhile, Hong Leong Industries and Sunway Construction were among the top losers.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index jumped 71.88 points to 12,189.37, while the FBMT 100 Index and FBM ACE Index also recorded gains. Sector-wise, the Plantation Index and Financial Services Index expanded, while the Energy Index and Industrial Products and Services Index experienced minor declines.
