Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session on a lower note, mirroring the performance of regional markets, which were affected by weaker results from Wall Street overnight. At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) decreased by 10.26 points, or 0.63 percent, settling at 1,617.17 compared to Monday’s closing figure of 1,627.43.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the benchmark index opened slightly lower at 1,627.0 and fluctuated between 1,616.43 and 1,627.32 throughout the morning session. The broader market saw a significant number of decliners, with 777 stocks down against 282 gainers, while 463 counters remained unchanged, 1,245 were untraded, and 11 were suspended. The turnover for the session was 2.97 billion units, valued at RM1.5 billion.
Regionally, the downward trend was also reflected in other major indices. Singapore’s Straits Times Index fell by 0.43 percent to 4,524.05, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined by 1.47 percent to 25,997.20, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped by 2.90 percent to 25,997.20.
Among the heavyweights on Bursa Malaysia, YTL Power increased by one sen to RM3.73, Gamuda went up by three sen to RM5.27, and Telekom Malaysia rose by eight sen to RM7.29. Maybank remained unchanged at RM9.92, whereas Public Bank saw a decline of three sen to RM4.27. CIMB and TNB also experienced decreases, shedding 11 sen to RM7.50 and eight sen to RM13.20, respectively.
On the list of most active stocks, Tanco rose by two sen to 98.5 sen, MMAG increased by one sen to seven sen, PMW slipped by half-a-sen to 33.5 sen, and Genetec fell by three sen to 37.5 sen. In terms of top gainers, Nestle rose by 50 sen to RM112.90, Bintulu Port climbed 27 sen to RM5.28, United Plantations added 24 sen to RM27.04, and Hong Leong Industries went up by 20 sen to RM15.30.
Conversely, Malaysian Pacific Industries led the top losers by dropping 76 sen to RM30.74, followed by Petronas Dagangan which slid 56 sen to RM21.54. Kuala Lumpur Kepong decreased by 26 sen to RM20.50, and SAM Engineering and Equipment fell by 23 sen to RM4.08.
On the index board, the FBMT 100 Index decreased by 75.90 points to 11,764.74. The FBM Emas Index was down by 78.58 points at 11,994.51, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index tumbled 84.22 points to 11,989.82. The FBM Mid 70 Index retreated 114.05 points to 16,822.57, and the FBM ACE Index fell by 95.94 points to 4,919.33.
Sector-wise, the Plantation Index sank by 22.91 points to 8,095.23, the Financial Services Index decreased by 110.11 points to 18,386.01. The Industrial Products and Services Index slightly eased by 1.66 points to 165.63, and the Energy Index slipped by 0.15 of a point to 760.85.
