SHAH ALAM: The developer responsible for the water retention pond adjacent to the Taman Seri Alam, Saujana Utama, residential area is considering offering ex-gratia compensation to residents following the collapse of a bund last Saturday. The incident has prompted discussions on potential financial assistance for those affected.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Ir Izham Hashim announced that a meeting is scheduled for today between the developer and resident representatives to deliberate on the compensation amount. The chairman emphasized that while the developer is amenable to offering compensation, it would be in the form of an ex-gratia payment rather than a formal settlement.
“The exact amount will be decided in today’s meeting. I will personally review the matter closely and we will support the residents wherever possible,” Datuk Ir Izham Hashim stated during the inauguration of the second Ehsan Mart supermarket in Pandan Utama, Ampang. Furthermore, the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation is evaluating additional assistance measures for the residents affected by the incident. The compensation plan will consider the losses sustained by the residents, and efforts are in place to identify technical solutions to avert similar occurrences in the future.
Datuk Ir Izham Hashim also mentioned that while there are plans for long-term measures, short-term actions to address the immediate issues are nearing completion. This follows a request from Taman Seri Alam residents on Tuesday, urging the developer to assume responsibility and provide compensation. The residents cited a similar incident in December 2015, which led to a flash flood.
