Bukit Jalil Traffic Solutions Government Plans Smart City Approach

Kuala Lumpur:Traffic congestion in Bukit Jalil, particularly during concerts and large-scale events, has prompted the government to explore smart city solutions while refining traffic management plans to improve traffic flow in the area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh stated that Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud had appointed consultants for a micro-traffic management study in Bukit Jalil. The study aims to address issues raised by residents, including traffic congestion, and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

Yeoh emphasized that Bukit Jalil's unique status as an event and concert hub necessitates a specialized traffic management approach. The traffic management plan is set to be finalized by February 2027, with the implementation audited by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to ensure effectiveness.

Efforts to find long-term solutions include discussions with the Digital Ministry to explore smart city solutions and with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to improve public transport access, potentially establishing a bus transit hub linked to the proposed Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project.

Regarding development, Yeoh mentioned that Bandar MADANI Bukit Jalil's growth is contingent on concurrent infrastructure provision. Four planning approvals have been granted for various facilities, ensuring compliance with the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040.

Additionally, DBKL plans to construct 22 kilometres of pedestrian walkways across the capital, with RM55 million allocated for the project starting January 2027. An additional 20 km of covered pedestrian walkways are also planned to enhance connectivity with public transport and commercial areas.
