Bukit Aman CID Assumes Control of Custodial Death Investigation

Kuala Lumpur:The investigation into the death of Noorizwan Zulkefly while in police custody has been taken over by the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bukit Aman CID director Datuk M. Kumar stated that the case is now being investigated under Section 331 of the Penal Code, which addresses the intentional infliction of grievous hurt to extort a confession or compel the restoration of property.

The case classification was influenced by a statement from a forensic medical consultant at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, who conducted a post-mortem and confirmed the presence of external injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma on several parts of the deceased's body. These injuries were not self-inflicted. However, the complete post-mortem report confirming the cause of death is still pending, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is awaiting further information from the hospital.

Kumar mentioned that the investigation is focused on identifying the police officers and personnel involved in managing the victim while he was in custody at Cheras district police headquarters. He assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and professionally, without any element of a 'cover-up,' to uphold criminal justice according to prevailing laws.

He further emphasized PDRM's commitment to ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the investigation, guaranteeing impartial justice for all, and stated that there would be no compromise on any form of misconduct.
