Kuala lumpur: Budget 2027 should introduce incentives to encourage investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy (RE) development, according to Energy Commission (ST).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, its chief executive officer Siti Safinah Salleh emphasized the need for greater encouragement in energy-efficiency investment, highlighting its often-overlooked significance within the overall energy system. "I hope the government will include initiatives, incentives or measures in Budget 2027 to encourage energy efficiency," she remarked during the Energy Regulatory Insights (ERI) 2026 event.
Siti Safinah pointed out the common misconception that investing in energy efficiency is less appealing, which often leads to its neglect. She stressed the necessity for incentivizing such investments. Additionally, she suggested the government explore incentives aimed at accelerating renewable energy development, urging those with financial capacity to invest in their own RE facilities. Such investments, she noted, would benefit the broader electricity system.
The upcoming Budget 2027 is scheduled for presentation in Parliament on October 9, 2026.
