Budget 2027 Energy Investment Crucial for Digital Infrastructure Growth

Kuala Lumpur:The RM15 billion investment in Budget 2027 to enhance the national electricity grid, along with the extension of green technology tax incentives until 2030, underscores the need to align digital infrastructure growth with long-term energy readiness and sustainability.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Equinix Malaysia's managing director, Cheam Tat Inn, emphasized that data center expansion in Malaysia should be driven by demand and responsibly planned. He highlighted the importance of collaboration among industry players, utilities, and policymakers to ensure the country's digital expansion remains competitive and sustainable.

Cheam noted that Equinix's upcoming KL2 facility in Cyberjaya is designed to support Malaysia's growing artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, and enterprise digital ecosystems. The facility aims to provide the necessary high-performance, interconnected infrastructure for businesses to scale securely and efficiently.

Equinix's presence in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, and its interconnected ecosystem across Malaysia and Singapore, positions the company to aid businesses in expanding throughout ASEAN, building more resilient and distributed digital operations. Cheam also mentioned that the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) continues to bolster Malaysia's role as a regional connectivity hub.

As Malaysia pursues its AI and digital economy goals under Budget 2027, Equinix remains committed to collaborating with the government and industry partners to foster resilient, sustainable, and globally connected digital infrastructure.
