BPHB Advances Carbon Capture Projects at Bintulu and Samalaju Ports


Bintulu: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB) is making significant strides in establishing carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure at Bintulu Port and Samalaju Industrial Port, aligning with its long-term sustainability strategy.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, these CCS-enabled hubs are poised to be central to Malaysia’s decarbonisation efforts, positioning BPHB as a crucial player in regional carbon management and sustainable energy logistics. BPHB expressed its commitment to enhancing infrastructure, advancing digital transformation, and reinforcing its role in carbon management and sustainable energy solutions.



BPHB is also progressing with plans to operationalise free zone areas at both ports, aiming to attract new investments and improve trade facilitation. Upgrades to the Bintulu International Container Terminal are in progress to meet international standards in efficiency, agility, and sustainability, as stated during the company’s 29th annual general meeting (AGM).



The Borneo Oil and Gas Supply Base project continues to be a pivotal element of BPHB’s vision to establish Sarawak as a regional hub for offshore energy logistics, supporting Malaysia’s energy ecosystem with integrated, future-ready logistics solutions.



During the AGM, BPHB declared a dividend of RM69.0 million (15 sen per share), reflecting a balanced capital management approach that ensures shareholder returns while facilitating reinvestment for future growth. Shareholders were informed that last year, BPHB achieved record operational milestones, with total group revenue increasing by 8.13 percent to RM888.47 million, demonstrating robust performance and disciplined operational management.



Key achievements included a total cargo throughput of 51.94 million tonnes, setting a new performance benchmark, and vessel traffic reaching a record 8,026 calls, reinforcing Bintulu Port’s status as a vital maritime logistics hub in the region. These results underscore BPHB’s capability to navigate dynamic operating conditions while delivering value through operational excellence and strategic focus.
