Labuan: The Borneo Arts Festival (BAF) 2025 not only showcases the uniqueness of Borneo’s arts, but also the spirit of unity that exists among the multicultural society of Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said. This year’s festival, with the theme ‘Warisan Seni Borneo: Jalinan Seni dan Cahaya’, reflects the synergy between tradition and innovation, heritage and modernity, and symbolises the aspiration of the communities in Borneo that were able to retain their cultural identity while adapting to progress.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah highlighted the role of creativity in uniting diverse cultures within the framework of Malaysia MADANI at the festival’s closing ceremony at the Labuan International Marine Sports Complex. He emphasized that arts and culture are crucial for fostering a harmonious culture, uniting communities, and shaping social strength for a more inclusive society with integrity.
Fadillah remarked that arts encourage appreciation of differences as strengths, viewing cultural diversity as spiritual wealth that should be continually reinforced. He also underscored Labuan’s significance as a hub for arts, culture, and the creative economy, noting the economic benefits the festival brings to businesses and creative entrepreneurs.
He stated that BAF serves as a catalyst for establishing Labuan as a high-impact events centre, opening new opportunities for youth and the local arts scene. This aligns with the government’s objectives of enhancing the creative economy and cultural tourism sectors.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that these efforts support preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026, with arts and heritage playing key roles in attracting tourists.
