KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has introduced three specially designed commemorative coins in celebration of significant national anniversaries, available for purchase until December 9, 2024. These coins commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Public Works Department (JKR), the 50th anniversary of the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA), and the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations (MCDR).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the coins are available in two denominations: the Sterling Silver Commemorative Coin (proof) and the Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) Commemorative Coin. The JKR coin features a unique hexagon shape, reflecting the department’s logo, and is made of sterling silver with 92.5% purity, weighing 29.9 grammes. It is valued at RM10 and is sold at RM440, presented in a premium wooden box.

The RISDA and MCDR coins, also made of 92.5% pure sterling silver and weighing 31 grammes, have a face value of RM10 and are priced at RM330 each. T
he mintage for each design is limited to 1,000 pieces.

In contrast, the Nordic Gold B.U. coins, composed of copper and other metals, weigh 8.5 grammes, have a face value of RM1, and are available for RM16.50 each. Each design has a mintage of 5,000 pieces.

BNM also offers coin sets featuring one coloured sterling silver proof coin and one Nordic gold proof coin. The JKR set is priced at RM495, while the RISDA and MCDR sets are each sold at RM385. Only 1,000 sets per design will be available.

To ensure fair access, a purchase limit is set at one set of two, one coloured sterling silver coin (proof), and up to five Nordic gold B.U. coins per person. Orders can be placed online at duit.bnm.gov.my until 5 am on December 9, 2024. BNM advises the public to purchase directly through its online system to avoid unauthorized transactions.
