BN Formally Admits PPP As A Component Party, Announces Ahmad Zahid

Kuala lumpur: The People's Progressive Party (PPP) has now been formally recognised as a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, announced Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Speaking as BN chairman, he said the official recognition ceremony will take place at the coalition's supreme council meeting in Kota Kinabalu on January 21.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid revealed that he holds a letter from the Registrar of Societies, dated November 25, 2025, which confirms PPP's status as a party within Barisan Nasional. This announcement was made during his speech at PPP's 72nd annual general assembly at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. The declaration was met with enthusiastic cheers from delegates and members, who stood up and chanted 'long live PPP'.

The event was attended by PPP president Datuk Dr J Loga Bala Mohan, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Wanita BN/UMNO chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, BN/UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, along with other senior party officials and delegates. Ahmad Zahid emphasized that, with this recognition, PPP's legitimate standing within BN is unquestionable.

During a subsequent press conference, Ahmad Zahid stated that the recognition confirms PPP as a full member of BN. He explained that the announcement was intentionally delayed to coincide with PPP's annual general assembly. Ahmad Zahid noted that the core membership of BN now includes five parties: UMNO, MIC, MCA, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), and PPP. He stressed that PPP's inclusion is crucial for ensuring stability and strengthening unity among BN's component parties.
