#BizIbuTunggal Initiative Empowers Single Mothers in Penang

Penang: The #BizIbuTunggal initiative has significantly boosted income for 127 single mothers in Penang, according to State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim. The program aims to support single mothers in becoming self-reliant through entrepreneurship, allowing them to generate their own income.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative was officially launched by the wife of Penang Governor, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, and attended by MBSP mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid. Lim Siew Khim explained that the project emphasizes the principle of 'teaching a person to fish,' fostering long-term self-reliance among participants.

Lim further revealed that the project generated RM144,274.50 in less than two months, exceeding its RM100,000 target, with contributions from 347 sponsors or buyers. Each participating single mother earned an average of RM1,136, with one mother earning RM9,600 in just over a month, highlighting the project's success.

The products created by the participants include festive cookies and creative items such as hampers and souvenirs, with participants selected by the JPWK in each state constituency. The project's rapid success has prompted plans for expansion to other festive seasons, including Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Christmas.
