Bernama Secures RM33,530 Zakat Wakalah Contribution from MAIWP

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today received a zakat wakalah contribution amounting to RM33,530 from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to assist staff in need. Bernama’s chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, announced that these funds would be distributed to the agency’s staff and their family members to help ease their financial burdens and prepare for the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, approximately 59 Bernama staff and their family members are set to benefit from this contribution. The remaining zakat distribution will be allocated to the Bernama surau. Nur-ul Afida expressed gratitude for the zakat wakalah, emphasizing its role in easing the burden of staff who belong to the asnaf group or have children with disabilities and medical needs.

MAIWP Wakalah Management Unit, Zakat Distribution Division representative Umar Mukhtar presented a mock cheque for the zakat to Nur-ul Afida. The presentation was witnessed by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai during the 2025 Bernama Iftar event at Wisma Bernama.

Also in attendance were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus, deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz, and various department heads.

Nur-ul Afida further stated that the iftar event is a key activity to celebrate the Ramadan month, providing an opportunity to strengthen ties among Bernama staff. The event also featured a Ramadan tazkirah (talk) by invited speaker Abdul Fatah Yusof from the Islamic Affairs Office at the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department of the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters.
