Melaka: The Bernama Motorcycle Club (BMC) carries out visits to strengthen the bond between the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff and retirees. Former Bernama driver Ishak Desa, 67, was indeed touched with the recent presence of the 32 BMC club members at his home in Taman Kesang Indah here, especially since he is now suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD), osteoporosis, and diabetes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the relationship between Ishak and the other staff at Bernama remains good, akin to siblings, with constant communication via a WhatsApp group. Ishak expressed his gratitude not for the items received but for still being remembered by his former colleagues. He mentioned how visits from old friends, who take him out for a drink when they come to Melaka, mean a lot to him, especially since his kidney ailment limits his ability to drive long distances.
Despite undergoing dialysis three times a week, Ishak remains active with his daily activities and admits missing his work as a driver at Bernama after retiring in 2019. Reflecting on his time at the Bernama Vehicle Unit, he noted that although his salary was modest, he was content with his job and chose to decline offers for positions in other departments.
Meanwhile, BMC president Amrizan Madian highlighted that the annual visitation event, initiated in 2023, embodies the motto “Two Wheels, One Soul.” It serves as a bridge for BMC members to maintain good relations with former Bernama staff. Amrizan emphasized the importance of the event as an opportunity to reconnect with Bernama retirees and stay updated on their lives. The visits also include small contributions, and during the recent visit to Melaka, two retirees and an orphanage were on the itinerary. Amrizan hopes these visits will continue to fortify the bond between the BMC and Bernama retirees.
