Bernama CEO Mourns Cherished Mentor Fauziah’s Passing

Kuala Lumpur: The passing of veteran journalist Fauziah Rauf, 81, is not only a profound loss to the local media fraternity, but also one that is deeply mourned by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nur-ul Afida, who affectionately referred to Fauziah as ‘Aunty Fauziah,’ described her as a mentor during their time together at Harian Nasional, the first Malay-language compact newspaper. “I personally have fond memories of Aunty Fauziah. I call her Aunty Fauziah because I started my career in journalism at Harian Nasional, where she was one of the editors,” Nur-ul Afida said. She fondly recalled being assigned to the women’s desk under Fauziah’s supervision, where she began her journalism career.

Nur-ul Afida was speaking while representing Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil in presenting the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA contribution to Fauziah’s family at the Selayang Baru Mosque. She noted that Fauziah was also a longtime acquaintance of her late father, Kamaludin Abdul Razak, the former editor-in-chief of Harian Nasional.

She further shared that Fauziah served as a mentor not only to her but also to her late brother, Kamal Huzaini, known as Huzz, when he worked as an entertainment journalist. “The late Fauziah was a straightforward person who guided both me and my brother greatly. We learn a lot from our elders; they are always honest and direct. They taught us sincerely, and their lessons continue to guide us to this day,” Nur-ul Afida expressed.
