Kuala lumpur: Pertubuhan Berita Nasional Malaysia (Bernama) today announced the appointment of Mohd Shukri Ishak as its acting deputy editor-in-chief of News Services, effective tomorrow. Mohd Shukri, 53, steps into the role following the retirement of Nasriah Darus, who vacates the position upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Shukri has had a longstanding career with the agency, having joined on May 1, 1996, as an editorial executive. Over the years, he has advanced through various roles, including executive editor and acting deputy editor-in-chief of International News Services.
Originally hailing from Kedah, Mohd Shukri is a Communications graduate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. His career at Bernama has seen him serve as the Pahang Bureau chief, a Foreign Correspondent in Indonesia, executive editor of the Digital Media Desk, and head of Broadcasting (TV and Radio).
In addition to his professional duties, Mohd Shukri actively participates in several organizations. He is the secretary-general of the Malaysia-Indonesia Journalists’ Friendship Association (ISWAMI), assistant secretary of Persatuan Wartawan Malaysia, deputy president of the Bernama Staff Club, and a management representative on Bernama’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee.
