KUALA LUMPUR: A team of BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions (ECMS) and Heesung Catalysts Corporation (HCC) scientists was recently awarded a 2024 Edison Patent Award by the Research and Development Council of New Jersey. They are being recognised for an innovative Three-Way Conversion Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) Trap technology for fuel-cut NOx control in gasoline vehicles.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the technology effectively addresses NOx emissions under modern engine operating conditions and offers reduced tailpipe emissions compared to conventional three-way conversion catalysts. This advancement has been well-received in the market for meeting critical needs in emissions control and fuel efficiency.

ECMS Senior Vice President, Research, Development and Application, Saeed Alerasool, expressed pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “This award is a testament to their hard work and dedication to innovating every day and we could not be prouder of the team.”

The award-winning team includes
ECMS scientists Xiaolai Zheng and Pat Burk (retired), alongside HCC scientists Jinwoo Song and Jun Lee. The Edison Patent Award, established by the Research and Development Council of New Jersey, honours Thomas Edison’s legacy by recognising innovation and invention within the state.

The council’s recognition programme supports collaboration among industry, academia, and government to enhance STEM education and innovation, positioning New Jersey as a global leader in these fields. BASF ECMS and HCC continue to drive advancements in air quality and emissions reduction technologies, serving industries such as automotive and aerospace.
