Kuala lumpur: Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz hopes the proposal presented by the governing body will be given proper consideration under Budget 2026, which will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, various engagement sessions were held with the Youth and Sports Minister, the National Sports Council (NSC), and the National Sports Institute (NSI) to strengthen the direction of sports development, particularly badminton. Tengku Zafrul expressed optimism for the Finance Ministry to properly consider BAM’s proposals, highlighting the impact of recent achievements, such as the World Championships mixed doubles victory of Cheng Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, in boosting national pride and Malaysia’s global standing.
Elaborating on the allocation for sports, Tengku Zafrul emphasised the importance of the private sector’s involvement in strengthening the country’s sports industry ecosystem. He pointed out that the sports industry is substantial and noted the need to explore monetization opportunities within badminton. Tengku Zafrul underlined the necessity of not solely relying on government resources, stressing the importance of prioritizing available resources and revenue when discussing the budget.
