Bahrain Grand Prix Relocates to Sepang International Circuit

Sepang:Bahrain The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is being held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia this year, a decision that came as a surprise to Bahrain International Circuit chief executive Sheikh Salman Isa Al Khalifa.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sheikh Salman learned of the relocation during a phone call from Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman Hamad Al Khalifa, while leaving the 2026 Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps. The Crown Prince informed him that the race would take place in Malaysia.

Despite initial deliberations, the decision was facilitated by the strong relationship between Bahrain and Malaysia and Sepang's history as a former Formula 1 host. Sheikh Salman expressed confidence in the arrangement, praising Malaysia and the Sepang International Circuit for their role in bringing the race back to the iconic venue.

The race, scheduled for October 2 to 4, was confirmed by Formula 1 in July. This agreement, involving the FIA and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain, ensures that the Bahrain GP remains on the 2026 F1 calendar after geopolitical tensions led to its earlier cancellation.

The move was endorsed by both Bahrain's King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa and Malaysia's King, Sultan Ibrahim, highlighting the close ties between the two nations. Prince Salman expressed pride in hosting the GP at Sepang and emphasized Bahrain's dedication to the sport.

The qualifying session is set for 4 pm today, with the race scheduled to start at 3 pm tomorrow.
