Azizan Abdul Aziz Named Bursa Malaysia’s Islamic Capital Market Director

Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed Azizan Abdul Aziz as director of its Islamic capital market (ICM) effective today. The bourse operator said in a statement today that Azizan would assume the new role in addition to his current position as Bursa's chief financial officer (CFO).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad'l Mohamed emphasized that the appointment reflects the company's ongoing commitment to bolstering its Islamic capital market proposition alongside its broader strategic objectives. "His experience, financial expertise and institutional understanding position him well to provide strategic direction for our Islamic market priorities, while continuing to ensure strong financial stewardship as CFO," he stated.

The statement highlighted the significance of Malaysia's Islamic capital market as a fundamental component of the domestic capital market. It has shown substantial growth, expanding from RM2.2 trillion in 2020 to RM2.7 trillion by the end of 2025, with shariah-compliant equities and sukuk contributing RM1.3 trillion and RM1.4 trillion, respectively. Reflecting the depth of shariah investing locally, shariah-compliant companies constitute more than 80 per cent of public listed companies on Bursa Malaysia.

Bursa Malaysia further noted that Azizan will provide strategic oversight and direction for its Islamic capital market-related priorities. He will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and market participants to support the ongoing development of the ICM ecosystem, leveraging his extensive experience of over 20 years in finance, accounting, corporate finance, and advisory.
