Azalina Highlights Unique Challenges Faced by Young People

Siena:Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Azalina Othman Said, emphasized the need to look beyond stereotypes of young people as entitled or spoiled, urging an understanding of the different socioeconomic realities they face.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azalina made these remarks during the 2026 International Young Future Leaders Summit (iFUTURE) Ministerial Forum. She highlighted that today's youth are shaped by technology-driven environments and changing economic realities, which influence their expectations for clarity and fairness in their careers.

Speaking at the forum, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and featuring Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Azalina noted that unlike past generations, young people today have a clear understanding of their value and expect respect and accountability from employers.

She also shared a personal experience from her university years, where her advocacy for fellow students influenced her leadership principles and decision to pursue a political career. Azalina stressed the importance of not abusing power and recognizing the temporary nature of positions of authority.

Furthermore, Azalina encouraged young leaders and university students to speak out on pressing national issues, such as environmental pollution. She specifically mentioned the transboundary haze problem, which has caused significant public health issues and school closures, urging students to use digital platforms to raise awareness rather than remain silent.
