Ayer Kuning: The security situation and campaigning for the Ayer Kuning state by-election are proceeding smoothly, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. He highlighted the effective planning by police in maintaining peace throughout the 14-day campaigning period that commenced on April 12.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin emphasized that only seven police reports have been filed so far, which is relatively low-key. He hopes that adherence to all regulations will persist until the end of the campaigning period. “We urge all parties involved to maintain the current situation to ensure a conducive environment for every voter to fulfil their responsibility,” he stated during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration program of the Malaysian Volunteer Corp Department (RELA) in Batang Padang district.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin reported that of the seven reports received, five were classified as ‘No Offence Disclosed’ (NOD), while two cases are under investigation for acts of vandalism under Section 427 of the Penal Code. Consequently, Saifuddin advised candidates and parties to refrain from inciting hatred through political platforms due to differing opinions.
The Ayer Kuning by-election, scheduled for Saturday, April 26, will feature a three-way contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr. Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Abd Muhaimin Malek from Perikatan Nasional, and Bawani KS from Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
