Ipoh: The Perak government has confirmed that the state legislative assembly sitting will proceed as planned from April 15 to 22, despite the Election Commission (EC) setting the polling date for the Ayer Kuning by-election on April 26.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad assured that the by-election would not interfere with the state assembly sitting. He highlighted that the Unity Government’s party machinery would manage the election campaign during the overlapping period. Saarani made these remarks during the launch of the Perak-level International Women’s Day 2024 celebration at Laman Seri Ridzuan.
The EC has announced that nomination for the by-election is set for April 12, with early voting scheduled for April 22. The Ayer Kuning by-election is necessitated by the passing of its assemblyman, Ishsam Shahruddin, who died of a heart attack on February 22.
