Ayer Itam Landslide Prompts JKR to Seek Geotechnical Report

Ayer itam: The Public Works Department (JKR) will collaborate with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to acquire a geotechnical report concerning the landslide incident at Jalan Paya Terubong, Ayer Itam. This initiative aims to evaluate the slope’s overall condition and devise long-term remedial strategies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the technical investigation’s findings will be crucial in guiding efforts to enhance slope stability and mitigate future risks. Immediate measures were taken by Penang JKR, which involved covering the affected area with canvas to reduce the likelihood of further landslides.

The government, through JKR, prioritizes public safety, particularly in high-risk slope areas. The minister assured that his ministry would vigilantly monitor the situation’s developments and ensure prompt remedial action for the local residents’ safety.

Nanta expressed gratitude to all involved agencies for their swift response, which included the district office, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force (APM), and the offices of the Paya Terubong and Air Itam assemblymen, alongside local authorities.

The landslide was triggered by heavy rain lasting over three hours, affecting the slope area near the residential neighborhood at Jalan Paya Terubong.
